Shine!

J.J. & Chris Grabenstein

Well, it's about that time. All of the MANY books I've had checked out from public libraries since March are now close to being due after the Covid shutdown. In true Sierra fashion, (that's me!), I've procrastinated, and I'm finishing reading them at the last minute. I spent the morning reading this gem.

"The brightest stars don't just shine for themselves."

5 out of 5 Stars

Piper's father gets a job in the music department of a prestigious school. Great for him, but is it great for Piper. The job comes with free tuition for Piper, so she will be starting at this new school in January. It just so happens to be the same school that her late mother attended. As Piper tries to figure out where she fits in, she makes a group of friends, deals with a mean girl, and learns some important lessons. Her English teacher gives the class an assignment to answer the following question: Who do you want to be? Will Piper discover the answer?

What middle school child doesn't deal with trying to figure out where they fit in? A great story about friendship, helping others, and figuring out what is important in life. Though the main characters are in middle school, this book would also be appropriate for upper elementary. Piper is a strong girl...one we should all strive to be more like.
